SIOUX CITY -- Bernice Walter, 96, of Sioux City went to be with her Lord on Friday, March 27, 2009, at Hallmark Care Center in Sioux City.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at New Hope Wesleyan Church, with the Rev. Mark Jenkins officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Bernice was born Sept. 15, 1912, in Kewana, Ind., to Fred and Ruth Taylor. She was raised in Crawfordsville, Ind., where she graduated from high school and then moved to Lafayette, Ind.

She married LeRoy Voris in 1932. She then married Oscar Sharp in Alva, Okla., in 1948. They then moved to South Sioux City in 1950. He passed away in 1974. She then married Bernard "Bud" Walter in 1976. He passed away in 1987.

Bernice was a member of the New Hope Wesleyan Church in Leeds. She was a writer of many poems and a church organist for many years. She loved to read the Bible and pray for her family and friends.

Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Sotelo of Carthage, Mo., and Marilyn Voris of College Station, Texas; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husbands; a son, Don; a brother, Alvin; and a sister, Bessie.

Pallbearers will be Roger Hunter, Bill Schug, Rich Andersen and Damon Colvin.
