SIOUX CITY -- Roland W. Goetsch, 87, of Sioux City passed away Saturday, March 21, 2009, in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, 6200 Morningside Ave., with the Rev. Lloyd Grant of Central Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Roland was born April 9, 1921, to Martin and Lesley (Pecaut) Goetsch. He graduated from Central High School in 1939.

He married Mary Jane Wider on Jan. 20, 1940, in South Sioux City. The couple were married for 69 years. He served in the U.S. Army with the 17th Airborne during World War II. He and his uncle owned and operated Allied Carpet for more than 40 years. After retiring from the carpet laying business, he was in construction for 14 more years.

He was a former president of the Sioux Valley Kennel Club. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and hunting.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Goetsch; three of his five daughters, Barbara "Bobbi Jo" (Russ) Ryken of Sioux City, Harriet "Judy" (Don) Bartholomew of Aurelia, Iowa, and Linda (Rick) DeRemer of Nederland, Texas; two brothers, Marvin (Blanche) Goetsch of New Jersey, and Roger (Nancy) Goetsch of Sioux City; two sisters, Beverly Junck of Sioux City and Joann Johnson of Sioux City; a sister-in-law, Mary Goetsch of Sioux City; 13 caring grandchildren; and many loving great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Gerald "Jerry" Goetsch; and two daughters, Constance "Connie" Bahmer and Janey Walchek.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Randy Bahmer, Rollie Bahmer, Steve Katsis, Brian Walchek, Chuck DeRemer, Joe Peterson and Lance Kruse.
