26 March 2009SIOUX CITY -- Gwendolyn E. (Langley) Walker, 79, of Sioux City passed away Monday, March 23, 2009, at Westwood Nursing and Rehab Center following a brief illness.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel, 822 Jennings St. Burial will be in Bella Vista Cemetery, rural Sioux City. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Gwendolyn was born Jan. 2, 1930, in Sioux City, the daughter of Herbert A. Langley Sr. and Lowell Emma (Clements) Langley.
She married Harold M. Olson in December 1948. She was later married to Chris Henry Walker in 1961.
In earlier years, she worked at Iowa Beef Processors. She also kept busy being a homemaker, especially sewing for her family.
In her spare time, she enjoyed car races, baseball games and reading. She treasured the time she spent with her family, especially her grandkids.
Survivors include 12 children, Sherwood (Joyce) Olson of Texas, Stella Deakins of South Sioux City, Julie (Earl) Strom of Sioux City, Harold (Arleene) Olson of South Sioux City, Shirley Olson of South Carolina, Edward (Pam) Olson of Jefferson, Iowa, Mary Mather of Plattsmouth, Neb., Debra Walker of Sioux City, Georgette (Bryan) Eggleston of Sioux Falls, S.D., Chris (Edith) Walker, Clyde (Christine) Walker and Gerald (Ann) Walker, all of Sioux City; two sisters, Grace Samson of South Sioux City and Maxine Langley of Sioux City; a brother, Herbert (Nancy) Langley Jr. of Sioux City; 40 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a special friend of 20 years, Don Knoll and family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; and a great-granddaughter.
Pallbearers will be Edward Olson Jr., Chad Olson, Jason Strom, Brent Strom, Shane Olson and Tray Kucera. Honorary pallbearers will be Lucas Strom, Kyle Strom, Jerren Walker and Shawn Olson.
