SIOUX CITY -- M. Alice Hanson, 93, of Sioux City passed away Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 11 a.m. today at Waterbury Funeral Service in Sergeant Bluff, with the Rev. Paul Johnston of Trinity Lutheran Church officiating. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Logan Park Cemetery.

Mary Alice was born Jan. 13, 1916, in Dana, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Mabel Andersen.

On Nov. 30, 1932, she was united in marriage to Einer Hanson in Dakota City. She was a homemaker.

In her youth, she taught swimming lessons to handicapped children at Brown's Lake. She was an artist and loved being with her painting friends. The couple would winter in Texas. While in Texas, she would tutor students in the grade school.

She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Milford, Iowa. Before there, she was a member for more than 40 years at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sioux City. She belonged to the Lakesville Ladies Club, enjoyed summer theatre in the lakes area and was active with the Senior Center.

She is survived by two daughters, Karen Marshall of Anthon, Iowa, and Gay Yanney of Sioux City; a sister, Helen Bryant of California; nine grandchildren, Mary Gay Marshall, Andy Marshall, Jim Marshall, Amy Drea, Allisyn Madsen; Jon Yanney, Bill Yanney, Bob Yanney and Candy Humphries; and 20 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, David Vernon Hanson; and several brothers and sisters.
