SIOUX CITY -- Anne F. Niebrugge, 82, of Sioux City died following a brief illness Monday, March 16, 2009, at her residence under hospice care.

Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Rev. Daniel C. Guenther officiating. Burial of the cremated remains will be at a later date. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. The former Anne Frances Gavin was born Oct. 10, 1926, in Ottumwa, Iowa, the daughter of John and Winifred Gavin. The family later moved to Terre Haute, Ind. She graduated from St. Anthony School of Nursing in Terre Haute in 1946.

She married Robert W. Niebrugge in August 1948 in Terre Haute. He died June 30, 2006, in Yankton, S.D. The couple lived in California, Ohio, then in Seattle, Wash., for 10 years. They moved to Yankton, S.D., around 1988. She lived there until 2006, when she moved to Sioux City. She worked as a registered nurse in the medical field for many years.

She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. She enjoyed knitting. She was an avid sports fan, especially football and baseball.

Survivors include a son, Andrew Niebrugge of Sioux City; four grandchildren, Robert, Jason, Emily and Drew Niebrugge; a brother, John Gavin of Orlando, Fla.; a sister, Joan Connolly of Omaha; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons, Robert and Joseph Niebrugge; a brother, Larry Gavin; and two sisters, Barbara Stuber and Rita Gavin.

Memorials in her name may be sent to Hospice of Siouxland.
