18 March 2009SMITHLAND, Iowa -- Nancy "Joie" Myrtue, 48, of Smithland died Sunday, March 15, 2009, at her residence.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at United Methodist Church in Smithland, with the Rev. Karen Handke officiating. Burial will be in Little Sioux Township Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 5 to 7 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Willman Funeral Home in Rodney, Iowa.
Nancy Jo "Joie" Myrtue, the daughter of William and Nancy (Henthorne) Huber, was born Sept. 26, 1960, in Baltimore, Md. She was raised and educated in the Baltimore area. She graduated with the class of 1978 from Chesapeake High School in Anne Arundel County. Following graduation, she worked various jobs, then began working in the family business at Paramount Packing and Rubber Company. She continued living in the Baltimore area until moving to Smithland in 1987.
On June 11, 1988, she was united in marriage to Dean Myrtue. To this union three children were born, Laura, Christine and Cory. The family made their home on a farm north of Smithland. She worked different jobs outside the home and recently worked at Runts in Smithland.

She enjoyed caring for her flowers, gardening, playing cards, reading and, most of all, watching and being involved with her children's school activities and 4-H projects. In 2001, she had the opportunity to travel to Tanzania, Africa, with the STEMM group. She was a member of the Red Hat Society. She will be remembered by her family and friends as a very blunt and honest person.
Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Dean; three children, Laura, Christine and Cory, all of Smithland; her father, Wallace Huber of Glenn Burnie, Md.; three brothers, Bill Huber of San Francisco, Calif., Ray Huber and his wife, Jenny, of Glenn Burnie, and Jay Huber of Glenn Burnie; two nieces and a nephew, Jessica, Taylor and Brandon Huber, all of Glenn Burnie; her father-in-law, Harry Myrtue of Smithland; other relatives; and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother; her grandparents; and mother-in-law, Maurine Myrtue.
