15 March 2009SIOUX CITY -- George Adolf Heilmann, 83, formerly of Sioux City, passed from this life to his eternal rest on Thursday, March 12, 2009, in Jefferson City, Mo.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Anthony Ellard officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a 7 p.m. prayer service, at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
George Adolf Heilmann was born on Sept. 15, 1925, in Chicago, Ill., the son of Adolf and Martha (Lehman) Heilmann. He graduated from Tilden Technical High School in Chicago in 1943. George served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946 in the Pacific Theater. He worked as a draftsman in Sioux City until his retirement.
George was united in marriage to the love of his life, Hazel Claussen, on April 17, 1949, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Sioux City. This marriage was blessed with three children, Steven, Becky and Bobbi. Hazel passed away on July 22, 2004.
Survivors include three children, Steven (Barbara) Heilmann of Morris, Ill., Becky (Martin) Stahl of Temecula, Calif., and Bobbi (Ron) Lenninger of Lake Ozark, Mo.; eight grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a brother, Irv Heilmann; a sister, Lorraine Neuburger; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife of 55 years.
Memorials may be directed to Grace Lutheran Church or the Alzheimer's Association.
