SIOUX CITY -- Gloria A. Gatewood, 86, of Sioux City passed away Thursday, March 12, 2009, at her residence.

The body was cremated. Memorial services will be at a later date. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel.

Gloria was born May 14, 1922, in Fordyce, Neb., the daughter of John and Kathryn (Pauley) Fleming. She moved to Sioux City as a young child and graduated from Cathedral High School. She moved to San Diego, Calif., in 1951 and returned to Sioux City in 1980.

Survivors include a son, John Gatewood of Sioux City; a daughter, Andrea and her husband, Glen Shephard of Carlsbad, Calif.; five grandchildren, John-Michael Gatewood and his wife, Becky, Meghan Finley, Sarah and her husband, Peter Levesque, William Shepherd and his wife, Kasey and Shannon Shephard; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews who were most helpful throughout her later years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Joseph, Marion, Paul and Michael; and five sisters, Averil Fleming, Vivian Sullivan, Jane Langford, Patricia Foley and Jacqueline Mersch.
