13 March 2009SIOUX CITY -- Shirley Brown, 88, of Sioux City died Wednesday, March 11, 2009, at her residence.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Grace United Methodist Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Judith Miller officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, Iowa.
Shirley was born Oct. 28, 1920, in Sioux City, the daughter of Dell and Lily Creighton. She was raised in Sioux City, where she graduated from East High School in 1939. She later worked at the Ben Franklin Store for a few years.
She and Leonard E. Brown were united in marriage on Dec. 28, 1941, in South Sioux City. They made their home in the Morningside area of Sioux City, where they raised their three sons. They enjoyed 67 years of marriage.
She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and volunteered many years at the Sioux City Goodwill Auxiliary. She enjoyed life and all her many friends throughout her life, but most importantly loved the times spent with her family.
Survivors include her husband, Leonard of Sioux City; three sons, Tom of Sioux City, Ron and his wife, Sheryl of Omaha and Marty of Chicago, Ill.; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Lou and her husband, Virgil Eberly of Rapid City, S.D.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant sister; and three brothers, Wayne, Arnold and Stanley and his wife, Margaret.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
