13 March 2009SIOUX CITY -- Veryl Iris Olsen, 78, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2009, at Indian Hills Hospice Unit following a lengthy illness.
Memorial services will be 7 p.m. today at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Roger Madden officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Graceland Park Cemetery. Veryl was born Feb. 25, 1931, in Sturgis, S.D., the daughter of Albert and Julia (Andersen) Abraham. She grew up and attended school near Spinx, S.D.
On June 4, 1949, she married Lester Olsen in Sioux City. The couple settled in Sioux City in 1951, where they raised their four children. Lester died Feb. 10, 2001, in Sioux City.
When she was not playing Pogo games on her computer or watching Days of Our Lives, she looked forward to visits with her family and friends. In earlier years, she enjoyed camping and playing cards. She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church.
Survivors include three children, Linda Rask of Sioux City, Gary Olsen and his wife, Chris of Sioux City and Valerie Thornton and her significant other, Robert McGinnis of Sergeant Bluff; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Glen Olsen in 1991; her husband; her parents; three brothers; and four sisters.
