SIOUX CITY -- George Olson, 64, of Macon, Mo., formerly of Sioux City, passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2009, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, Mo.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Macon United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Rick Gressman and Neal Lassinger officiating. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home in Macon.

George was born June 12, 1944, in Sioux City, the son of Herbert W. and Viola (Duistermars) Olson.

On Dec. 30, 1967, he was united in marriage to Sheila Longwell. He served his county in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. He worked for 30 years as a banker and then became a representative for Edward Jones Company.

He was a member of Macon United Methodist Church, where he served as past president of the administrative board and served as the finance chairman. He served as past president of the Rotary Club, the Literacy board and the Repertory Theater. He was instrumental in starting the Macon High School baseball program. He enjoyed fishing and especially spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Sheila; two sons, George Olson Jr. of Kansas City, Mo., and Eric Olson and his fiancee, Cindy Kotowicz of Vail, Colo.; three grandchildren, Maeghan Olson of Columbia, Mo., Savannah Olson and Trey Olson, both of Kansas City, Mo.; a brother, Vic Olson and his wife, Dana of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a sister, Bonnie and her husband, Terry Leigh of Chicago, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Herbert Olson.

The family suggests memorials to the Macon United Methodist Church or the Randy Johnson Memorial Fund.
