SIOUX CITY -- Betty (Brownlee) Foxen, 86, of Pollock Pines, Calif., formerly of Sioux City, North Platte, Neb., and Miami, Fla., died Thursday, Jan. 22, 2009.

Betty was born July 29, 1922. She was a graduate of Central High School in Sioux City. She also attended Colorado Women's College in Denver and the University of South Dakota in Vermillion.

She was active in statewide politics, PTA and Toastmisstress Club, participating in national competitions. She loved community, church and theatre. She will be remembered for her love of animals, especially her beloved dogs. She will live in our hearts forever.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Floyd Foxen; three children, Gayle Harlow of Zephyr Cove, Nev., John Foxen of Woodland Park, Colo., and Leslie Taylor of Wareham, Mass.; loving grandmother of Thane Harlow of Galesburg, Mich., Elaine Higuera of Winnipeg, Canada, Holly Foxen of Mesa, Ariz., Heather Williams of Overland Park, Kan., Erica Arruda of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and Lindsay Ingraham of Tampa, Fla.; and doting great-grandmother to Ethan, Madison and Brenna Harlow, Dominique and TJ Higuera, Fernando Portillo, Brice and Rylan Sweigart, Brett and Blake Williams and Jameson Arruda.

Her life long passion was studying Native American cultures, focusing on Plains Indians. She supported in particular, the St. Stephens Indian Mission Foundation, P.O. Box 278, St. Stephen, WY. 82524.
