10 March 2009LeRoy Edward "Bud" Johnson, 79, of Sioux City passed away Friday, March 6, 2009, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Wesley United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Larry Nilson of First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Larkin Northside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. LeRoy Edward Johnson was born Sept. 9, 1929, in Newcastle, Neb., to John P. and Stella (Bagley) Johnson. He attended school in Newcastle.
On June 18, 1950, he and Ida Mae Bauman were married in Martinsburg, Neb. He worked for American Popcorn Company in Sioux City. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1952 and served time in Korea. After his discharge from the U.S. Army in 1954, he returned to American Popcorn Company and worked for 41 years, retiring in 1991.
In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and hunting.
He is survived by a daughter, Rosann and Bill Decker of Cherokee, Iowa; sons, John of Dakota City and Walter and his wife, Lori, of Sioux City; daughter, Julie, and her husband, William Barbee, of Sioux City; a son, Corey, and his wife, Ann, of Sioux City; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Delbert, of Atlantic, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Bonnie Bauman of Sac City, Iowa; a brother-in-law, Maurice Bauman of Laguna Nigel, Calif.; numerous nieces and nephews; and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ida, in 1998; three brothers, Virgil, Gayle and Robert; and three sisters, June, Agatha and Zetta.
