SIOUX CITY -- Mary T. Bennett, 88, of Sioux City passed away Sunday, March 1, 2009, at Countryside Senior Living.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Daniel C. Guenther of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Mary was born July 4, 1920, in Sioux City, the daughter of Stanley and Mary Julia (Miska) Krokowski. She had lived in Sioux City most of her life. She attended St. Francis Grade School, East Junior High School and graduated from East High School in 1940. She was employed with Cudahy Packing Company, then worked for Lockheed Aircraft in Burbank, Calif. She worked in the supply department at the Sioux City Air Base, then for the Sioux City Battery Company for a short time.

She married Eugene Bennett on Jan. 1, 1945, in Sioux City. He died July 13, 1997, in Sioux City. Following her marriage, she became a homemaker and housewife.

She was a former member of St. Francis Catholic Church. She was a member of the St. Francis and St. Casimir Alumni Association. She enjoyed journaling and doing crossword puzzles. The most important thing in her life was her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and even her many nieces, nephews and extended family.

Survivors include two sons, Raymond Bennett and Dianne Miller of Sioux City and Gary and Connie (Clancey) Bennett of Muscatine, Iowa; two daughters, Linda and Ron Mcentaffer of Sioux City and Mary Rygh and Bill Clarke of Sioux City; 10 grandchildren, Paul and Stacy Mcentaffer of Sioux City, Dan and Amy Mcentaffer of Clive, Iowa, Elizabeth Bennett of Omaha, Nick Bennett of Los Angeles, Calif., Katie Bennett of Omaha, Joshua Bennett of Nashville, Tenn., Douglas Bennett of Fairmont, Minn., Samuel Bennett of Firestone, Colo., Annah Rygh and Michael Rygh, both of Sioux City; six great-grandchildren, Caitlin Mcentaffer, William Mcentaffer and Alec Mcentaffer, all of Sioux City and Ava Mcentaffer, Ella Mcentaffer and Gus Mcentaffer, all of Clive, Iowa; and a daughter-in-law, Kathleen Bennett of Sioux City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her twin brother and his wife, Marion and Sally Krokowski; a brother and his wife, Stanley and Delores Krokowski; an infant brother, John Krokowski; a granddaughter, Emily Bennett; and a son-in-law, Kerry Rygh.

Memorials may be directed to the Carmelite Monastery or the Queen of Peace Shrine.

The family would like to express a special thanks to the nurses and staff of both Countryside Retirement Home and Hospice of Siouxland for all the care that was shown to their mother.
