SOUTH SIOUX CITY (Buried Sioux City)-- Dorothy M. Stinger, 92, of South Sioux City passed away Monday, Feb. 23, 2009, at a South Sioux City nursing home.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church in South Sioux City, with the Rev. Stephen Niles officiating. Graveside services will be Monday in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. followed by an Order of the Eastern Star service, at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Becker-Hunt Funeral Home.

Mrs. Stinger, the former Dorothy M. Robinson, was born July 23, 1916, in Franklin, Neb., the daughter of Frederic and Veda (Davis) Robinson. She attended school and graduated from Franklin High School. She later graduated from Hastings Beauty Academy in Hastings, Neb. She came to South Sioux City to work as a hairdresser for the Weinandt Beauty Salon. She later worked at the Mirror Beauty Salon.

She married Arden E. Stinger on July 19, 1939, in South Sioux City. He died Dec. 29, 1977, in Sioux City.

She was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church, where she was a former deaconess, Sunday School teacher and served on various committees. She also was active in civic and fraternal organizations, being a charter member of the Chamberettes, a 50-year member and past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star Laura Chapter 301, a charter member of the Nile Patrol, past Queen of the Daughters of the Nile Hathor Temple 38, past mother advisor of the Rainbow Girls Lynn Broyhill Assembly, a past president of the P.O.E. Chapter IC and a charter member of the Kanduettes. She was also active in school affairs, having been president of the Bryan P.T.A. and Band Parents.

She enjoyed playing bridge, was an avid fan of the Nebraska Corn Huskers and enjoyed knitting and crocheting.

Survivors include her daughter, Ruth Ann, and her husband, Fred Michalski, of Columbus, Ohio; sons and their wives, Fred and Betty DeLong Stinger and Jerry and Dolores Stinger, all of South Sioux City, and Richard and Marcia Stinger of Elk Point, S.D.; a daughter-in-law, Merrie Stinger; eight grandchildren, Matt, Susan, Christy, Jon, Mitch, Mike, Alison and Katie; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Mary Deck and Ardith Lively.

Pallbearers will be Christine, Jon, Mitchell and Michael Stinger, Alison Oppliger, Katie Garcia, Matt Michalski and Susan McSweeny.
