SIOUX CITY -- Lucile M. Thompson, 94, of Sioux City died Thursday, Feb. 19, 2009, at Holy Spirit Retirement Home's assisted living after a brief illness.

A Memorial Mass will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with the Rev. Craig Collison and the Rev. Mr. James Sands (deacon) officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, with a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Lucile was born Oct. 8, 1914, in Manilla, Iowa, the daughter of Roger J. and Margaret Ann (Collins) McMahon. She came to Sioux City with her family in 1922. Lucile married Robert A. Thompson on May 10, 1934, in Sioux City. The couple lived in Sioux City until 1955, and then moved to Denver, Colo. Mr. Thompson passed away June 7, 1956. Lucile returned to Sioux City and had lived here since.

Early in her career, she worked at Northwestern Bell for about six years, then as a bookkeeper for Roberts Dairy for many years. She retired from Hirschbach Trucking after 25 years in their bookkeeping department.

Lucile was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and belonged to the Ladies of LaSalette. She was also involved with the church's prayer line for many years.

Survivors include three children, Roger Thompson and his wife, Peg of Sioux City, twin daughters, Lynn Thompson and Lori Keairns, both of Phoenix, Ariz.; a son-in-law, Jim Sands and his wife, Caroline of Sioux City; eight grandchildren, Traci Bornholtz, Robert (Patty) Thompson, Trudi (Paul) Kambach, Tom (Lisa) Thompson, Ryan (Kristina) Keairns, Dan (Tara) Keairns, Patti Long and Amy (Steve) Feltz; 20 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Ann Sands; a granddaughter, Peggy (Sands) McCaslen; six brothers, Roger, Jim, Dennis, Leo, Raymond and Vincent McMahon; six sisters, Marie McNertney, Catherine Barrett, Esther Kenz, Helen Beaulieu, Elizabeth McMahon and Maxine McMahon.

Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Thompson, Tom Thompson, Ryan Keairns and Dan Keairns.

Memorials may be made in her name to Hospice or Holy Spirit Retirement Home.
