16 February 2009SIOUX CITY -- Helen Emma Houlihan, 81, of Sioux City died Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009, at Indian Hills Nursing & Rehab Center.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Rev. Daniel C. Guenther officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services Tuesday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes. Helen was born Jan. 30, 1928, at Neilsville, Wis., the daughter of Herbert and Emma (Marg) Bardelaben. She grew up and graduated from school in Wisconsin, moving to Sioux City in the late 1940s.
Helen worked at Younkers Department Store as a department head. She retired and started helping the elderly through Senior Companions. She received many awards throughout her years of service.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. She was also a member of the Eagles for 20 years with her close friend and confidante, Adolph Trarig. Helen was best known for her kindness to others and always putting them before herself.
Survivors include two sons, Tom Houlihan of Delray Beach, Fla., and Mark Houlihan of Orlando, Fla.; a daughter, Deb Houlihan of Le Mars, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Gladys Cummings of Alma Center, Wis.; and special friend, Adolph Trarig of Sioux City.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
