16 February 2009SIOUX CITY -- Veryl C. Paul, 103, of Sioux City passed away on Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009, at his home, surrounded by his family.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Merlin Schrad officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Veryl was born on April 5, 1905, on a farm outside of Odebolt, Iowa, to Charles and Sarah (Crawford) Paul. He grew up on the farm and attended school in Odebolt, where he graduated from high school.
He married Kathleen LaNott in 1936. She passed away in 1968. He then married Dorothy Mohler Hennessey in 1969. She passed away on June 14, 2006. Veryl moved to Sioux City, where he held odd jobs for a couple of years. He then did electrical work, rewinding armature until he retired in 1995.
He attended Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. He was a member of a square dancing club, Skirts and Flirts, and the 30 Club.
Survivors include four daughters, Katherine and husband, David Hovde of Sioux City, Betty and husband, James Jorgensen of Glendale, Ariz., Judy and husband, Carlos Wilks of Lewisville, Texas, and Mary and husband, Robert Francis of Sioux City; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives, Kathleen and Dorothy; a foster daughter, Judy Tweedy; two brothers; and two sisters.
Pallbearers will be David Hovde, Robert Francis, Carlos Wilks, Dane Jorgensen, Justin Prins and John Murphy.
