13 February 2009SIOUX CITY -- Clarence Anderson, 86, of Countryside Nursing Home in Sioux City passed away Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009, at a Sioux City hospital from pneumonia.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Augustana Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Alan Wicks officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, 6200 Morningside Ave. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.
Clarence was born Feb. 16, 1922, in Sioux City, the son of Swedish immigrants Carl and Esther Anderson. He attended Central High School. He was a life time Sioux City resident.
He married Vivian Winters on Oct. 9, 1943. She died Oct. 25, 2006, in Sioux City. He was employed as an assistant manager of the Sioux City airport for 25 to 30 years.
He was confirmed and a long time member of Augustana Lutheran Church. He was a Eagle Scout and Boy Scout leader. He was a passionate weather watcher, had a nose for news and a curiosity about how the world worked. He loved the adventure of travel and liked to play Trivial Pursuit with his family around the dining room table.
Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Dianne and Gary Clemon of Newton, Iowa, and Carol and Gayle Vollmer of Charlotte, N.C.; grandchildren, Jennifer (Scott) Thomsen of Maple Grove, Minn., Jeff (Karin) Clemon of Lakeville, Minn., Alison Vollmer of Ashburn, Va., and Amber (Ryan) McGinnis of Gastonia, N.C.; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Vivian; a son, Jerry; an infant son, Charles; a grandson, Matt; and a sister, Elsie.
Pallbearers will be his grandchildren and their spouses.
Memorials may be made in his name to Augustana Lutheran Church.
