SIOUX CITY -- Jeanette Ann (McNally) Smith, 77, of Fargo, N.D., formerly of Sioux City, passed away due to breast cancer Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2009, at Meritcare Hospital in Fargo.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Cathedral in Fargo. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Friday in St. Mary's Cemetery, Barnesville, Minn. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 6 p.m., at Boulger Funeral Home in Fargo. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service Friday at the church. Jeanette Smith was born Dec. 19, 1931, the daughter of John and Mary McNally. She grew up on the family farm in Sioux City. She graduated from Cathedral High School, then attended Briar Cliff College for one year. She was an assistant office manager for a group of orthopedic surgeons. She truly loved her time working in the medical field. During that period of time, she also modeled at Martin's Department Store in Sioux City. She dearly loved all animals, riding horses and being the only one of the five children in her family to master milking the cows.

She married Joseph A. Smith on Sept. 13, 1958. They lived in Sioux City, moved to Aberdeen, S.D., Sauk Centre, Minn., in 1976, then settled in Barnesville, Minn., where they owned a business. After the death of her husband in 1980, she moved to Scottsdale, Ariz., for seven years before returning to Fargo.

She enjoyed gardening, spending time with her family, particularly her eight grandchildren. She enjoyed discussing current events with her coffee friends and attending theatrical performances. She was devoted to the Catholic faith and was a parishioner at St. Mary's Cathedral.

She is survived by her five children, Theresa Smith, MD (Mark Danielson) of Duluth, Minn., Julia (Dan) Bommelman of Fargo, Patrick (Tina Lantner) Smith of Marissa, Ill., Michael (Susan) Smith of West Fargo, N.D., and Paula (Keith) Ternes of Fargo; eight grandchildren, Andrea (Derrick) Olson of West Fargo, Brittany Marthaler of Fargo, Jim Danielson of Duluth, Minn., Joey, Kayla and Kyle Smith of Marissa, Ill., Brian Ternes of Fargo, and Jordan Smith of West Fargo; two brothers, John (Marge) McNally and James (Mary) McNally; and two sisters, Mary Ellen Wigton and Jean McNally, MD (Peter Carbonara, MD).

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; and her parents, John and Mary McNally.
