MOVILLE, Iowa -- Omer Grafton, 72, of Moville passed away Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009, at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital in Humboldt, Iowa.

Celebration of life will be 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Pearson Lakes Art Center, 2201 Highway 71, Okoboji, Iowa. Masonic rites will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the art center. Arrangements are under the direction of Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.

Omer was born Oct. 17, 1936, in Holstein, Iowa, the son of Harold and Thelma (Omer) Grafton. He graduated from Sanborn (Iowa) High School in 1955.

He married Betty Jensen in 1958, in Primghar, Iowa. He spent his entire career working in the electrical field. He was employed with O'Brien County REC, then Northwest Iowa Power Co-op and ended his career with the U.S. Department of Energy, Western Area Power Administration.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Primghar and Sanborn, Iowa, and a past Master of Rising Star Lodge in Primghar. He served on the Primghar city council, was a member of the Primghar Fire Department and was a Boy Scout master for several years.

After retiring, he enjoyed being a volunteer camp host at Marble Beach in Spirit Lake, Iowa. He treasured all of the friendships he acquired while doing that. His love of woodcarving and his creative abilities has left many special gifts for his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; three daughters and their husbands, Stacy and Keith Timmer, Joan and Dan Eischen and Susan and Scott Hanson; three sisters and their husbands, Marilyn and Jim Cardin, Kathy and Ted Hemmig and Dorothy and Rodney Kroese; his aunt, Shirley Omer; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Patti Bethel.
