SIOUX CITY -- Daniel L. "Umpy" Johnson, 82, of Sioux City passed away Sunday, Feb. 8, 2009, at a local care center.

Private family services will be held at a later date. Per his request, the body was cremated. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service in Sergeant Bluff.

Mr. Johnson was born Dec. 13, 1926, in Sioux City. He graduated mid-term in 1945 from East High School.

He graduated from Morningside College with a bachelor of science degree in business administration in 1951 and married Bonnie in May.

He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict. He worked as an independent contractor for more than 50 years.

His interests included hunting, boating and dancing. He was an artist in his younger years as was his mother. He held a long term membership at the Missouri River Boat Club.

Survivors include a son; his wife; three grandsons; and a daughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and an infant son.
