10 February 2009MOVILLE, Iowa -- Alfred W. "Rex" Jahn, 94, of Moville passed away Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009, at Correctionville Nursing and Rehab Center in Correctionville, Iowa.
Abiding by the families wishes, cremation has taken place. Graveside services will be held at a later date in Arlington Township Cemetery, Moville. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City.
Rex was born June 9, 1914, in Moville, to Gustov and Christina (Bremer) Jahn. He was raised on the farm and did some trucking before entering the U.S. Army, where he served during World War II in the South Pacific Theater. He received his honorable discharge four years later.
He married Carol Barnes and the couple farmed in the Moville area until her death in 1980. He worked for Woodbury County for five years on the county road crew.
He married Mary Ellis Bahmer on June 6, 1981, in Moville.
He enjoyed playing cards, golfing and being with family and friends. He was a member of the Catholic church in Moville, the Knights of Columbus and enjoyed his membership in the country club.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen Jahn of Moville; a son, David Jahn and his wife, Joanne of Sioux City; three granddaughters, Jennifer, Jessica and Jaci; two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Madison; a sister, Emma Haring; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Carol; sisters, Elfreda, Carolyn, Lina and Minnie; and brothers, Eddie, Theodore, George and Harry.
