SIOUX CITY -- Eleanor M. Groves, 90, of Sioux City passed away Friday, Feb. 6, 2009, at a Sioux City care facility.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Rev. Andrew-Bao Vo officiating and assisted by her nephew, Deacon LeRoy Rupp. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Eleanor was born July 29, 1918, in Adrian, Minn., to Frank and Wilhelmina (Redder) Reinert. She was raised in the Maryhill, Iowa, Cherokee County area. She attended Catholic school in Maryhill.

She was married to Lloyd G. Groves on April 24, 1938, in Ida Grove, Iowa. He passed away May 2, 1997, in Sioux City. After their marriage, they lived in the Siouxland area and moved to Sioux City in 1942. She had been a resident of Sioux City since. She was employed with Sears for more than 30 years.

She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, fishing, spending time at their summer home in Minnesota, reading and family gatherings. She was never happier than when she had her family with her.

Survivors include a son, L. Donald and Jean Groves of Sioux City; a daughter, Ruth and Al Kern of Sioux City; eight grandchildren, Michele and Paul Tacheny, Lori and Dave Arnold, Don and Melissa Groves, Matt and Bonnie Sandvold, Tracy and Scott Meadows, Melissa Sandvold and Mark Mullings, Chris and Stephanie Groves and Troy and Cara Kern; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jerry and Barb Reinert of Sioux City and Leonard and Pat Reinert of Indianola, Iowa; two sisters, Tina and Don Rolland and Josephine Jurgensen, all of Sioux Falls, S.D.; two sisters-in-law, June Reinert of Cherokee, Iowa, and Joanne Reinert of Donna, Texas; and several special niece and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd; a daughter, Dolly Sandvold; sisters, Mary Hanson and Elsie Hollingshead; and six brothers, George, Lewis, Tony, Frank, Herman and Ralph.
