SOUTH SIOUX CITY (Buried Sioux City) -- Bernice S. Russell, 91, of South Sioux City passed away Thursday, Feb. 5, 2009, at her residence.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Nancy Leonard officiating. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery. Following the graveside services, there will be a lunch and fellowship at the church. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church. The family invites anyone who would like to bring music to be shared during the visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of Becker-Hunt Funeral Home.

Bernice was born March 17, 1917, in Sioux City, the daughter of Stanley H. and Ethel (Hindalong) Woodworth. She graduated from South Sioux City High School. She received her associate degree in childhood education from Briar Cliff College.

She married William J. Russell on April 19, 1949, in South Sioux City. She taught many students piano through the years in home and played for her church.

She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She was a member of the Siouxland Federated Music Club, the Siouxland Music Teachers and the National Guild of Piano Teachers.

Survivors include a daughter, Ruth Ellen and her husband, Alan Christensen of Osmond, Neb.; three grandsons, Jonathon, Shane and R.J. Ernst; great-grandchildren; beloved sister-in-law and brother-in-law; her care givers, Peggy and Carl Palermo; and beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, William on June 28, 1974, in Sioux City.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Hospice of Siouxland, 4300 Hamilton Blvd., Sioux City, IA, 51104.
