SIOUX CITY -- Martha Larvick, 79, of Sioux City died Friday, Feb. 6, 2009, at her residence.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Tess Panamarow officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Larkin Northside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Martha was born March 20, 1929, on a farm in McIntosh County, N.D., the daughter of Gottfried and Elizabeth (Denning) Janke. She attended country school in Ashley, N.D.

On June 14, 1949, she married George E. Larvick in Glydon, N.D. The couple lived in West Fargo, N.D., before moving to Sioux City in 1962. George died May 17, 1993, in Sioux City. She worked for the Omar Bakery, Roe Dairy and Interbake Foods. She retired in 1991.

She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. She loved doing needlepoint, crocheting, reading cooking and doing word puzzles. She enjoyed working with plants and garden flowers. She loved her cat, Dakota, but what she loved most was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by four daughters, Barbara Borg of Sioux City, Norma and Lee Stansberry of Sioux City, Debra and Chuck Carman of Sioux City and Leila and Rick Redmond of Papillion, Neb.; four sons, George and his special friend, Jeanie of Sioux City, Brad and Carol of Sioux City, Erick and Dee of Sioux City and Ronald of Sioux City; 26 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter to arrive in the spring; two sisters, Ruth Glaesman of Ashley, N.D., and Erna and Julius Kiesz of Lodi, Calif.; and two brothers, Christ and Clara Janke of Eureka, S.D., and Leonard and Katherine Janke of Aberdeen, S.D.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three children at birth; five brothers; and seven sisters.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons.

A memorial has been established in her name for Hospice of Siouxland.
