9 February 2009SALIX, Iowa -- Lola L. Eliason, 77, of Salix passed away Friday, Feb. 6, 2009, at a Sioux City hospital.
Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Salix Community United Methodist Church, with Pastor Catie Newman officiating. Interment will be in Oto Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be 5 to 7 p.m., with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Wood Funeral Home in Sloan, Iowa.
Lola Lorraine Eliason, daughter of Oliver and Maude (Duncan) Downing, was born Dec. 28, 1931, at Oto, Iowa. She was raised in Anthon and Sioux City, where she attended schools.
Lola married Melvin Biggerstaff, and they had two children. She was united in marriage to Eldon Eliason in 1955, and moved to Lantry, S.D., until 1958, when they moved to a farm east of Sloan. They had one son.
Lola did day work, mostly for teachers, so she could have the summer off to spend with her children. She was a janitor for the Sloan State Bank for 33 years. In 1969, Lola and Eldon moved into Sloan, and in 1978, they moved to Salix. She still did day work, retiring at 62.
She was a member of Salix Community United Methodist Church, where she was very active, and a 60-year member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Lola was an avid reader, loved to go fishing, camping, traveling with their motor home and doing bus tours all over the country.
Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Eldon Eliason of Salix; a daughter, Sharon Tripp of Salix; a son, Steve (Pam) Eliason of Salix; grandchildren, David (Jackie) Tripp, Robert (Heather) Tripp, Jennifer (Tim) Peterson, Joel (Jillian) Biggerstaff, Jill Biggerstaff, Brock Biggerstaff, Kory Biggerstaff, Kyle Biggerstaff, Jake Biggerstaff, Clint Eliason, Logan Eliason and Lindsey Eliason; 10 great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Raymond Biggerstaff; a son-in-law, Joe Tripp; a grandson, Michael Tripp; two brothers; and two sisters.
