SIOUX CITY -- Charlotte Mae Wilcox, 76, of Sioux City died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2009, at her residence following a brief battle with cancer.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Westminster Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. John H. Pehrson officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Charlotte was born Nov. 29, 1932, at Sacramento, Calif., the daughter of Frank and Virginia (Silva) Nevis. She grew up and attended school in Sacramento. She married Donovan Steve "Dump" Wilcox on July 10, 1950, at Reno, Nev. Together, they made their home in Sacramento for a short time before moving to Sioux City.

Charlotte and their small daughter arrived in Sioux City on a train on Oct. 25, 1951. Steve, the love of her life, arrived two weeks later, starting a new life raising five children. Over the years, Charlotte worked at Zenith, Johnson Biscuit and Laurence's Bakery, but the job she enjoyed the most was as a baker for the Sioux City Public Schools. Steve died Nov. 1, 2008.

Charlotte was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, the Red Hat Society and Retired Educators. She enjoyed working in her and her husband's garden and traveling with their children.

Survivors include two sons, Clifford and wife, Barb Wilcox of Sioux City, and Frank Wilcox of Des Moines; three daughters and their husbands, Deborah and Marlan Hansen of Sioux City, Jodi and Rick Beller of Des Moines, and Tammy and Jeff Pojar of Kalamazoo, Mich.; 13 grandchildren, Marty, Steven, Tyler, Kati, Jennefer, Michelle, Anthony, Jeremiah, Drew, Clifford, Becky, Clinton and Eric; five great-grandchildren; a sister and her husband, Arline and Gary Simmons of California; nieces and nephews; as well as other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Virginia Nevis; her husband, Donovan "Steve" Wilcox; and four sisters, Marjorie Kozavan, Geraldine Burgess, LaVern Sherlock and Priscilla Hamblin.
