SERGEANT BLUFF -- Loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother, Martha "Dutch" Viola Kilpatrick, 73, of Sergeant Bluff, passed away in her sleep at home on Thursday, Feb. 5, 2009, following a lengthy illness.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with Pastor Ted Stowers officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3:30 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Online condolences may be sent to www.christysmith.com.

Martha "Dutch" was born to Harold and Bessie (Christensen) Downhour on March 5, 1935, in Sergeant Bluff, Iowa. She attended Sergeant Bluff Public School.

She met and married the love of her life, Maynard Kilpatrick on Aug. 16, 1960. Martha lived her whole life in Sergeant Bluff, and the last 42 years in a house that she and Maynard made a home and raised six children that she cherished and loved unconditionally.

Martha worked for several local businesses, Katz, Fergie's Cafe, Zenith, Bomgaars, Tupperware, Sergeant Bluff School, Jack's Pizza, McDonald's and Sam's Club, where she was employed before her illness forced her into retirement. She enjoyed meeting people and could carry on a conversation with anyone she met.

Martha enjoyed family gatherings, playing card and dice games, spending time having coffee and socializing with family and friends and spoiling her grandkids and later, her great-grandkids, Ethan and Erika, her "little buddies" that just called her "Ma."

Martha will be greatly missed by her husband, Maynard; six children, Susan and Randy Sanderson, Keith and Chris Kilpatrick, Tina Kilpatrick and fiance, George Patterson, all of Sergeant Bluff, Nancy and Scott Cleveland of Salix, Iowa, Maynard Jr. and special friend, Rene Pastone, and Michele and Ron Willer, all of Sioux City; seven grandchildren, Christy and Curt Schnee, Kim and Gregory Leaver, Megan Kilpatrick, Samantha and Steven Willer and Justine Cleveland; two great-grandchildren, Erika and Ethan Schnee; three sisters, Dorothy and Elvin Muxfeldt, Deloras Huff and Marilyn Downhour; a sister-in-law, Mollie Vess; and several nieces and nephews.

Martha will join her parents; and eight brothers, Little Bud, Duane, Andy, Beryl, Harold Jr. "Junnie," Kenneth "Babe," Merrill "Hoppy" and Mike Downhour in heaven.

Pallbearers will be Stanly Cook, Chris French, Norman, Frankie and A.J. Braden and Rick Bryce.
