SIOUX CITY -- Dorothy Margaret Shannon, 94, of Sioux City passed away Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009, at Holy Spirit Retirement Home following a brief illness.

Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services Tuesday at the funeral home.

Dorothy was born Aug. 3, 1914, in Sioux City, the daughter of George and Margaret Emily (Womersley) Hoaas. She graduated from Central High School and attended N.B.T. for five years.

She married Bill Shannon on Feb. 6, 1954, in Sioux City. He preceded her in death in 1968. Dorothy retired from Younkers Clothing Store after more than 31 years of service.

She was an active member of First Lutheran Church, where she was baptized and confirmed. She was a member of the Sewing Bees Altar Guild and Sarah Circle at the church and would help with other various activities. Dorothy was an avid reader and walker but, most of all, she loved to spend time with her family.

Survivors include a granddaughter, Lori and husband, Micheal Rose of Sioux City; a grandson, Scott and wife, Laurie Colt of Spirit Lake, Iowa; seven great-grandchildren, Justin and wife, Jessica Voigt, Jacob and Joshua Voigt, Taylor, McKenzie and Reagan Colt and Crystal Rose; five great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Jean and husband, Daniel Brazelton of Ankeny, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Diana Colt; two brothers; and four sisters.
