SIOUX CITY -- DeWayne K.H. Soper, 74, of Sioux City passed away Friday, Feb. 6, 2009, at a Sioux City hospital due to renal failure.

Services will be 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Leo Kostizen officiating. There will be a time of fellowship with cake and coffee with the family at the church immediately following the service. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present at 6 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Becker-Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux City.

DeWayne was born Sept. 27, 1934, in Ricketts, Iowa, the son of Harold K. and Augusta (Wellner) Soper. He graduated from Charter Oak (Iowa) High School in 1953 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served during the Korean conflict with most of the time in Japan. He married Shirley "Sherl" Hokamp on April 29, 1959, in South Sioux City.

He graduated from Nettleton Business College and was employed at Mahoney Motor Company in Sioux City as an accounting clerk. He also attended night classes at Morningside College. He then was employed as a salesman for D.W. Verstegen Printing in Sioux City until it closed in 1977. On May 1, 1977, he opened and operated Tri State Forms and Printing Company in Sioux City.

He was a member and active supporter of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Sioux City and was an active member of the Sertoma Club.

Survivors include his wife, "Sherl"; twin daughters and their husbands, Sheila and Michael Muniz of Boulder, Colo., and Shelley and Scott Carpenter of Denver, Colo.; a stepdaughter, Rebecca Ephraim of Vancouver, Canada; a grandson, Bryce Carpenter; a stepgranddaughter and her husband, Taylor and Tim Tolifson; a great-stepgrandson, Jackson Levi Tolifson; and two sisters, Pauline Iwen of Sioux City, and Janice Brink of Arion, Iowa.

His parents and a brother, Alan, preceded him in death.
