SIOUX CITY -- June McFarland Johnson, 79, of Sioux City passed away peacefully Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2009, at a local long term care facility.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Riverside Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Chuck Wolff officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 6 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

June was born March 29, 1929, in Sioux City, to John and Anna (Larson) Feltes. She grew up in the South Bottoms in Sioux City and remained there until the 1950s. She always looked forward to attending the annual South Bottoms Reunion.

She married Vernon W. McFarland in Sioux City, to which eight children were born. Vernon passed away in December 1979. She married Jacob B. Johnson in February 1981. He preceded her in death in 1987.

She enjoyed singing and in her younger years, enjoyed dancing, roller-skating, bowling and playing bingo. Later in life, she enjoyed watching old movies on Turner Classic Movie Channel. She was proud to have been a nurse's aide for many years prior to taking early retirement. After she retired, she enjoyed being a breeder of Pomeranian dogs. She enjoyed living independently with her Pomeranian, Cindy. Cindy was her pride and joy.

She is survived by seven children and spouses, Lena and Floyd Peres of Hornick, Iowa, Wayne and Sue McFarland of Sioux City, Rosanne and Dan Janssen of Sioux City, Linda and Monty Moore of Lincoln, Neb., Diane Fleming of Camas, Wash., Timothy and Wanda McFarland of Surprise, Ariz., and Gail and Lorne Lane of Sioux City; 22 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and her room-mate and friend, Florence Wienhold.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Lottie Blundt; both husbands, Vernon and Jacob; a daughter, Daisy McFarland; two grandsons, Danny Brown and Shane Baker; and a granddaughter, Jeanie McFarland.
