6 February 2009SIOUX CITY -- Dena M. Evans, 90, of Sioux City, formerly of Fort Dodge, Iowa, died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2009, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Chapel of the Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home in Fort Dodge, with Chaplain John McKinley of St. Luke's Hospital officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Fort Dodge. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Dena May Fox was born May 4, 1918, in Marceline, Mo. As a young child, she moved with her family to Gilmore City, Iowa, where she attended country schools.
On Nov. 10, 1939, she was united in marriage to Harold Raymond Evans. The couple established their home in Boxholm, Iowa. She worked as a housekeeper for a number of years for families in Gilmore City and Fort Dodge. She also worked as a senior companion in Fremont, Neb., and Sioux City.
She was a member of the Foster Grandparents Program. In 1997, she returned to Fort Dodge, where she was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. She enjoyed writing poetry and spending time with her family.
Survivors include her sons, Larry D. Evans of Kansas City, Kan., Ronald P. Evans of Oklahoma City, Okla., Gary D. Evans of Sioux City, Harold Evans of Fremont, Neb., Pat Evans of Twin Falls, Idaho, Rex A. Evans of Sun Valley Idaho, and Joseph M. Evans of Sioux City; daughters, Nancy L. Scully of Des Moines, Nina M. Flora of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Frankie M. Gross of Sioux City, Nellie J. Petersen of Humboldt, Iowa, and Eileen D. Luckenbill of Fort Dodge; 47 grandchildren; 83 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Nora A. Mowery of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Dolly M. Nelson of Fort Dodge, and June Bowman of Missouri; and brothers, Glen Fox of Montana, and James Fox of Missouri.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Bertie (Cupp) Fox; a son, Thomas Evans; a grandson, Thomas Chad Evans; brothers, Omar Ray Fox, John Fox and Lawrence Edmond Fox; sisters, Pauline Hendrickson, Betty Joyce and Lula Evans; and an infant grandson.
Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
