Lloyd Paul Castle Sr 1928 - 2009

SIOUX CITY -- Lloyd Paul Castle Sr., 80, of Hemet, Calif., formerly of Sioux City and Arizona, passed away Jan. 6, 2009, at Hemet Valley Medical Center from complications of pneumonia.

Entombment was held Jan. 22 in St. Francis Cemetery and Mausoleum in Phoenix, Ariz., where the Rev. John Bernbrock of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church officiated.

Lloyd Sr. was born Nov. 28, 1928, to Lloyd H. and Matilda (Raml) Castle (Castle Pharmacy, Morningside). He graduated from East High School in 1946. While in high school, he volunteered with the Civil Air Patrol, where he learned to fly. His passion for flying continued until his later years. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps.

After the war, he attended Morningside College and graduated from the University of Washington College of Pharmacy in June 1953. He started his 47 year career in pharmacy by working a short time, until 1954, with his brother at Vernon Castle's Pharmacy in Bremerton, Wash. During this time, Phoenix, Ariz. was beginning to develop as a "boom town" and he moved there from Bremerton.

In Phoenix, he met Madeleine A. Sellers and they were married in 1958. To this union a daughter, Holly, and a son, Lloyd Paul Jr., were born. The marriage ended in divorce in 1981.

He was a Third Degree Knight of Columbus. He belonged to the University of Washington Alumni Association and St. Anthony Church.

He is survived by his daughter, Holly Castle; a granddaughter, Caroline; two sisters, Rita (David) Goodrich of Perry, Iowa, and Mary Castle of Sioux City.

He was preceded in death by his son, Lloyd Paul Castle Jr.; his former wife, Madeleine; his parents; and his brothers, John and Vernon.
