HORNICK, Iowa -- Walter R. "Bud" Shearn, 80, of Hornick died Monday, Feb. 2, 2009, at his residence surrounded by his family.

Visitation will be 3 to 7 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Catie Newman officiating, at Waterbury Funeral Service in Sergeant Bluff. Burial will be at a later date in Grace Hill Cemetery, Hawarden, Iowa.

Walter was born July 4, 1928, in Hawarden, to Michael and Letha (Lowell) Shearn. He joined the U.S. Navy in May 1945 and served during World War II in the Philippines. He was honorably discharged in 1948. He was a long-haul truck driver for most of his working career.

In November 1974, he was united in marriage to Cyndy Hulleman in Hawarden.

He enjoyed camping, gardening, golfing and taking long car rides on Sunday afternoons. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Cyndy; his sons, Rick and his wife, Julie, of Sioux City, and Walter and his wife, Debbie, of Auburn, Wash.; his daughters, Barbara of Sioux City, Lorna and her husband, Jack, of Pennsylvania, and Tomi and her husband, Steve, of Hornick; his sister, Mary Shvll of California; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Siouxland and the Rev. Catie Newman of Hornick. Bud will always be loved and remembered.
