SIOUX CITY -- Harold Herman Britton, 86, of Cheyenne, Wyo., formerly of Sioux City, died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2009, at a Cheyenne nursing home.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Sioux City Baptist Church, with the Rev. James Pointer officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Sioux City. Harold was born Dec. 3, 1922, in Sioux City, the son of Ralph and Bessie (Groves) Britton. He attended school in Sioux City and entered the military. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in 1943.

He married Edna Rogers on Nov. 19, 1948, in Sioux City. He worked for Carpenter Paper from 1945 until his retirement in 1985. The couple moved to Wyoming in late 2005. Edna died April 16, 2006.

He was a member of Sioux City Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Cheri and Pat Reibe of Cheyenne, Wyo.; a son, Clayton "Bud" and Robin Britton of Sioux City; five grandchildren, Tammie, Jennifer, Stacy, James Jr. and Jamie; six great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; four sisters; two brothers; nieces and nephews; other relatives; and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Edna; a son, James; three sisters; and three brothers.
