James E. McGuire, 79, of Sioux City died Thursday, August 3, 2000 at a nursing home in Elk Point, South Dakota.

Burial will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel with the Rev. Harold Werly of Moville United Methodist Church officiating. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present at the funeral home.

Mr. McGuire was born May 1, 1921 in Pender, Nebraska, the son of Paul and Ada (Grubb) McGuire. He graduated from Pender High School and attended N.B.T. College in Sioux City. He married Myrtle Whitcher in Sioux City.

He served in the army and was a World War II veteran. He was an office supervisor at IPS (now Mid-American Energy) in Sioux City.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Dennis and Toni of Sioux City, a daughter and her husband, Donna and Stub Strohbehn of Sioux City, a brother and his wife, Eldon and Deloris of Pender; a sister-in-law, Mary McGuire of Pender; four grandchildren, Shaun, Patrick and Kelsey McGuire and Jeff Albech and a great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his wife and a son, Ronald.

A memorial has been established in his name.
