Elvin Henry Metz, 87, of Sioux City died Thursday, March 13, 2003 at Holy Spirit Retirement Home.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Alan Wicks officiating. Burial with graveside military rites will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Mr. Metz was born August 1, 1915 in Sioux City, the son of Fred G. and Marie C. (Will) Metz. He grew up in Sioux City and attended Sioux City Schools. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He married Dorothy L. Thompson on June 25, 1948 in Sioux City. She died January 14, 2003 in Sioux City. He worked for D.K. Baxter Refrigeration and A C & R Specialists for more than 32 years.

He was a member of First Lutheran Church. He enjoyed fishing, spending time with his family and working.

Survivors include a son, Gregory Metz and his wife, Kim of Richland, Washington; two daughters and their husbands, Cheri and Donald Trometer and Joan and Larry Kaschmitter, all of Sioux City; eight grandchildren, Tom and Dan Metz, Brian and Brent Trometer, Mitch and Becky Kaschmitter, Krisi Trometer and Jessica Moore.

He also was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Katherine Kirkpatrick and Dorothy Preston and three brothers, Gordon, Fred and Darrell Metz.

Pallbearers will be Dan, Allan, Fred and Tom Metz, Brian and Brent Trometer and Mitch Kaschmitter.

Honorary pallbearers will be Becky Kaschmitter, Kristi Trometer and Jessica Moore.
