Roger Fletcher

Roger J. Fletcher, 53, of Sioux City died Monday, July 21, 1997, at a Sioux City hospital after taking ill at his residence.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Morningside Lutheran Church with Rev. John Gerds officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today with the family present from 7 to 9 p. m. and prayer service at 7 p.m., at the Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel.

Mr. Fletcher was born Oct. 22, 1943, in Akron, Iowa, the son of Raymond and Stella (Ryan) Fletcher. He was raised in Elk Point High School in 1962.

He attended the Sioux City Barber College and gratuated from Sioux Empire College in Hawarden. He married Paulette Brown on April 4, 1965, in Akron.

He was employed as a barber in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Sioux City for a short time. He worked as a machinist at Sioux Tools for 30 years.

He was a member of the Iowa National Guard and served in Vietnam with the 101st Army AAirborne. He was a recipient of the Bronze Star.

He was a member of Morningside Lutheran Church where he was active in youth athletics as a coach and referee. He was also active in Siouxland Youth Athletics as a coach and umpire.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Kimberly D. and her husband, Scott Soule and Stephanie R. Fletcher of Ames, Iiwa; a grandson, Colton T. Soulr; his mother, Stella Monk of Elk Point; a brother Richard P. Fletcher and his wife, Marge of Des Plaines, Ill.; a sister and her husband, Yvonne and William Busker of Elk Point; and many nieces and nephews.
