Roger E. Casey, age 92, of Correctionville, passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2009 at the Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.

A funeral service was held on Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at the Church of Christ of Correctionville with Rev. Andrew R. Younker and Rev. Tim Jones officiating. Organist was Karen Weinreich with congregational singing.

Pallbearers were Ronald Cockburn, Nathan Casey, Richard Cockburn and Jim Casey. Honorary pallbearers were Brian Apfel and Jason Apfel. Burial was at the Correctionville Cemetery of Correctionville with Military Rites conducted by Mumford Moon Post #79 VFW Post #1750 of Correctionville, Iowa under direction of the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Correctionville.

A prayer service was held on Monday, June 22, at 7:00 P.M. at the church.

Roger Eldon (Bud) Casey was born on October 4, 1916, to Charles and Amie (Tuschoff) Casey on a farm south of Correctionville. He served in the Army for 3 years during WWII. Because he was in the Infantry, he often said he walked clear across Europe. Roger returned home in November of 1945 and was married to Leah Young on December 28, 1945. They were blessed with two children, Gloria Ann and Donald Roger.

Roger was a faithful member of the Church of Christ and studied God’s word daily. He went home to be with God June 20, 2009, after a brief illness.

Survivors include his wife, Leah; his daughter, Gloria; his son, Donald and wife Marlene; grandchildren, Brian Apfel and wife Darcy; Kimberly Apfel, Jason Apfel and wife Sherry, Carrie Williams, Donnelle Schultz and husband Jim, Nathan Casey and wife Kristi and Jessica Staton and her husband Damon; fourteen great-grandchildren; and numerous other family and friends.

Waiting in Heaven to greet Roger are his parents; an infant daughter, Janet Marie, his sisters, Lura Reyman and Aletha Smith and his brothers, Russell and Jim.
