Betty McNear Colsman of Aurora, Colorado, formerly from this area, died at a Hospice care center in Aurora, Colorado, June 6, 2009 following a long battle with cancer.

Services were held June 12 at Horan McConaty Funeral Home in Aurora.

Betty Jean McNear was born November 21, 1928 on a farm west of Anthon, Iowa to George W. and Marvel Howard McNear. She received her elementary education in a country school near her home in Grant Township. She graduated from the Oto Public High School in 1946. She furthered her education at NBT in Sioux City and was a secretary for Frank Pilley & Sons for several years.

Betty was united in marriage with Wm. O. Alexander on September 10, 1949. In 1953 they moved to Storm Lake where they later owned and operated Lakeside Imports.

Betty moved to Colorado in 1971. She married Richard Colsman February 12, 1973.

She is survived by her sons, Wm. D. Alexander and his wife Frances of Pueblo, Colorado and Michael J. Alexander of Aurora, Colorida, two granddaughters, Emily and Sara Alexander of Pueblo. A sister and her husband, Virginia and Dale Hayworth of Correctionville, Iowa, two brothers and their wives, Ron and Barbara McNear of Ft. Gibson, Oklahoma and Gary and Susan McNear of Ft. Myers, Florida, a sister-in-law, Agnes McNear of Mapleton, a niece and nine nephews.

Her parents, a brother Wilbur, a niece, Sheri Hayworth and a nephew, Todd Hayworth, preceded her in death.
