SIOUX CITY -- David John Morris Sr., 54, of Sioux City passed away Monday, Oct. 27, 2008, at his residence surrounded by his family.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Ho-Chunk Center in Winnebago, Neb. Burial will be in Winnebago Tribal Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. today, with Bernard and Terry Littlegeorge officiating and a Native American church service held on Wednesday, all at the Ho-Chunk Center.

David John Morris was born in Winnebago, on July 8, 1954, to William Morris Sr. and Arlene Horn. He attended St. Augustine's grade school and Winnebago High School, graduating in 1972. He then attended Haskell Indian Junior College. He worked briefly for the Zenith Corporation in Sioux City before making roofing his lifelong trade.

He married Dena Rae Cook of Macy, Neb. in 1973. They had two children, Marcella Julia and Kenneth Jerry.

He married Valencia Adele Grant of Sioux City on Feb. 14, 2004. They had two sons, David John Jr. and Lightning Nealle Wayne.

He was an excellent pool player, enjoyed fishing, horseshoes, baseball and spending time with his family. His sense of humor and quick wit will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his wife, Valencia; his children, Marcella, Kenneth, David Jr. and Lightning; five grandchildren; his mother, Arlene Horn Morris; nine sisters; and five brothers.
He was preceded in death by his father, William Morris Sr.; and a stillborn brother.
