Dr. Dennis Patrick Cronin, 53, of Madison, N.C., formerly of Sioux City, died Wednesday, May 14, 2008, at Morehead Hospital in Eden, N.C.

Memorial services will be today at Stokesdale Untied Methodist Church, Stokesdale, N.C., with the Rev. Claudia G. Harrelson officiating.

A native of Sioux City, Dr. Cronin was born Oct. 17, 1954, the son of the late Dennis Eugene and Patricia (England) Cronin. He began his undergraduate studies at the University of South Dakota, attended Washington University and completed his doctoral studies at the Logan College of Chiropractic. He then continued his studies at the National College of Chiropractic with specialized studies in sports injuries, advanced radiology and acupuncture.

He moved to Greensboro, N.C., in 1981 and opened his first office there. He served as both president and vice president of the Iowa and North Carolina Chiropractic Associations and in 1989 was appointed by Gov. Martin to the North Carolina Board of Chiropractic Examiners. He also served at the Chiropractic Physician Liaison on the governor's Highway Safety Council. He had several articles published in the North Carolina Chiropractic Association Journal. He later moved his practice to Stokesdale, N.C.

He is survived by his wife, Diane Kersey Cronin of the home; three children, Amy E. Cronin of Greensboro, N.C., Dennis Patrick Cronin II and Katie D. Cronin, both of Madison, N.C.; a sister, Kathy LaFleur of South Dakota; and brothers, Terrance Cronin of Kernersville, N.C., Steve Cronin of South Dakota, and Timothy Cronin of Iowa.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
