17 November 2008SIOUX CITY -- Willard E. "Skip" Smith Jr., 66, of Spirit Lake, Iowa, formerly of Sioux City, passed away on Friday, Nov. 14, 2008, at home, comforted by family.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel, with the Rev. Roger Madden officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Skip was born on April 15, 1942, in Sioux City, to Marguerite (Riffle) and Willard E. Smith Sr. He received his education in the Sioux City Public Schools, graduating from Central High School.
Skip married Sharon M. Dicus on June 26, 1962, in Yankton, S.D. He was an electrician by trade and was the maintenance manager at U.S. Filter for 18 years prior to his retirement. Willard and Sharon have lived in Spirit Lake for the past 12 years.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon of Spirit Lake; a daughter, SonyJo Simpson of Rock Valley, Iowa; sons, Shaun M. Smith and wife, Kari of Sioux City, Stephen S. Smith of Spirit Lake, and Shay E. Smith and wife, Nancy of Sioux City; sisters, Wilma Sims of St. Louis Park, Minn., Marybelle McClain of Omaha, and Carolyn Sqroi of Omaha; and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Scot and Sean; and two sisters.
