16 November 2008SIOUX CITY -- Hermina A. "Sandy" Orr, 76, of Sioux City passed away Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008, at her residence following a brief illness.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Sioux City Baptist Church, with the Rev. James Pointer officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Sandy was born Sept. 28, 1932, in Worthington, Minn., the daughter of Menno and Agnes (Schuur) VanderVeen. She married Ward E. Orr on March 18, 1961, in San Diego, Calif.
Sandy had many interests including artwork, gardening, sewing, quilting, bird watching and going out to eat, but her greatest love was her family. She loved spending time with the kids and grandkids and having them over for a swim in the pool.
She and Ward loved to travel and spent time in Europe, Hawaii, the Black Hills and the western United States. They also spent the last four winters in Brownsville, Texas, and enjoyed time at their lake house on Big Spirit Lake. Sandy was also a very active member of Sioux City Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Ward Orr Jr.; a son, Mark and wife, Pam Uden of Sioux City; daughters, Susan Cole of Sioux City, Cindy and husband, Bill Steele of Sioux City, and Julie and husband, Dave Graves of Akron, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren plus one on the way; father-in-law, Ward Wesley Orr Sr.; a brother, Dick VanderVeen; half brothers, Mellvie VanderVeen and Donnie Matheson; and half sisters, Shirley Barry and Diane DeBates.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Ward Orr Jr.; a son-in-law, Doug Cole; mother-in-law, Minnie Orr; and a sister and brother-in-law, Elsie and Norbert Bomgaars.
