Orlin R. Bottjen, 78, formerly of Sioux City passed away Saturday, Oct. 25, 2008, at his residence in Theodosia, Mo.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Community United Methodist Church in Sergeant Bluff. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Waterbury Funeral Service in Sergeant Bluff.

Orlin R. Bottjen was born in Ewen, Mich., on Aug. 1, 1930. After numerous moves as a youth, he graduated from high school in Climbing Hill, Iowa.

He was a member of the Sioux City Police Department and the Iowa Association of Chiefs of Police and Peace Officers. He was awarded a commendation for bravery and professionalism in 1982. He retired in 1986 following 26 years of service.

He is survived by his wife, Delia (Rains) Bottjen; five children, Darrell Bottjen, Lyle Bottjen, John Bottjen, Linda (Bottjen) Lamoureux and Timothy Bottjen; five stepchildren, Georgetta (Rains) Grimes, Danny Rains, David Rains, Cindy (Rains) Korver and Kelly (Rains) Campbell; 26 grandchildren; and 40 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gustave and Alvina Bottjen; his first wife, Letha (Handke) Bottjen; four siblings, Hilda, Tommy, Harold and Clifford; and a stepchild, Kenneth Rains.
