SIOUX CITY -- Althea G. Olson, 97, of Wausa, Neb., formerly of Sioux City, died Saturday, Oct. 25, 2008.

Memorial services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Brockhaus Funeral Home.

Althea was born in Wausa, Neb., to Larry and Matilda (Moeller) Gillilan. She attended school in Wausa and Magnet, Neb., and went on to graduate from Wayne State College. She taught at a rural school and later became the first person licensed to transcribe medical information in Iowa. She performed this job for St. Joseph Hospital in Sioux City for 35 years.

Her first husband, Werner Roell, was a young German soldier, who served in the American Armed Force. He was later a chef at the Diamond Horseshoe in South Sioux City. Later in life, she married Gilbert Olson, retired farmer and amateur rock hound. Their retirement travel took them all over the United States and to Norway, where Gilbert had relatives.

In 2001, she moved into the assisted living facility in Wausa and spent the last four years at the Golden Living Nursing Home.

She had been active in the Order of the Eastern Star for more than 50 years. She was a regular member of St. James Methodist Church in Sioux City.

She is survived by a brother, Dalton Gillilan of Wausa; and six nieces and nephews and their families.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Norris of Wausa; and her two husbands.
