SIOUX CITY -- Curtis LeRoy Berge, 66, of Sioux City died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008, at his residence following a brief illness.

Abiding by his wishes, the body was cremated. There will be no services at this time.

Arrangements are under the direction of Larkin Northside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.

Mr. Berge was born Aug. 1, 1942, in Tyler, Minn., the son of Chester and Clara C. (Mork) Berge. The family moved to Hinton, Iowa, in 1954, where he graduated from Hinton High School in 1960. He moved to Sioux City in 1972.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1964 to 1966, spending most of his time in Germany. He was employed as a telegrapher and clerk for the Great Northern, then the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railroad from 1959 to 2002, when he retired.
He married Lynnette Jean Hanneman on July 10, 1972, in South Sioux City. She died Jan. 9, 2007, in Sioux City.

He was a member of the American Legion Edward H. Monahan Post 64. He had a fascination with the railroad steam engine, collecting books and paraphernalia on the steam engine. He also was a self-taught guitar player.

Survivors include two sons, Kurt Steven Berge of Burlington, Iowa, and Jason Howard Berge of Iowa City, Iowa; a brother, Steven Berge of Sioux City; and two sisters and their husbands, Judith and John Lukowicz of Sioux City and Nancy and Brit Peters of Herman, Neb.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
