Ronald E. Shaver, 67, of Apache Junction, Ariz., formerly of Sioux City, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, May 18, 2008, after a two and a half year battle with ALS.

He chose to donate his body to science in hopes that someday they will find a cure for ALS. Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Ron was born Oct. 28, 1940, in Sioux City, to Red and Tommy Shaver. He attended public schools and Central High School in Sioux City. He had two sons, Steve and Rick, by a previous marriage. After moving to Colorado, he went to work for the Safeway Warehouse Distribution Center in Denver, where he worked for more than 30 years before retiring.

He later married Karen Parker of Colorado, who had two children from a previous marriage, a son, Ron, and a daughter, Teri.

He attended Superstitious Mount Baptist Church of Apache Junction. He was an avid golfer. He loved to go fishing and hunting with his sons, grandson and nephew. He enjoyed camping in his fifth wheel across the country.

He is survived by his wife, Karen of Apache Junction; two sons and their wives, Steve and Carol of Foxfield, Colo., and Rick and Denise of Littleton, Colo.; a stepson, Ron of Arvada, Colo.; a stepdaughter, Teri of Arvada; five grandsons, Shane, Justin, Derrick, Joshua and Jeremy, all of Colorado; a brother and his wife, Jerry and Ginger of Palmdale, Calif.; three sisters and their husbands, Sally and Ron Statt of Burbank, Calif., Karen and Jack Taylor of Sergeant Bluff, and Shirley and Mike Ciolkosz of Clovis, Calif.; and 17 nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Norma (Shaver) Frigge.
