SOUTH SIOUX CITY -- Virginia A. Burnight, 77, of South Sioux City, formerly of Waterbury, Neb., passed away Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2008, at her residence.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at River Hills Church in South Sioux City. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 7 p.m. today, with the family present 4 to 6 p.m., at Becker-Hunt Funeral Home.

Virginia was born Aug. 27, 1931, in Sioux City, the daughter of Herman A. and Florence M. (Gregg) Tippery. She attended schools in Sioux City. She married Joseph R. Burnight on May 20, 1950, in Dakota City. The couple moved to Waterbury in 1987. After the death of her husband, she moved into South Sioux City in 2003.

She was a member of Church Of All Nations in Sioux City and Active Generations Senior Center in Sioux City. She enjoyed playing cards on Tuesdays and Thursdays with the Ladies Club and spending her winters in Mission, Texas.

Survivors include three daughters and their husbands, Joann and Daniel Sullivan of Sioux Falls, S.D., Rose and Ray West of Surprise, Ariz., and Bernice and Terry Bowman of Dakota City; a brother, Ray and (Lonna) Tippery of Sioux City; six grandchildren, Joseph (Shelbey) West, Rodney (Pepper) West, Steve Best, Katie and Anne Sullivan and Ginnifer West; and four great-granddaughters.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joseph on May 20, 1950, in Sioux City; a sister, Betty Hesse; and a granddaughter, Keri Sullivan.

Pallbearers will be Herman Jenkins, Dennis, Terry and Rich Burnight, Les and Lloyd Lutter.
